How to find a logotherapist (and what to check)

By · Last updated

A logotherapist is someone trained in Viktor Frankl's meaning-centered approach. There is no state license called "logotherapist." So the training behind the title can be very different from person to person.

01

Two kinds of people use the title

  • A licensed therapist who trained in logotherapy. For example a licensed counselor, social worker or psychologist. Their license can be looked up with the state board.
  • Someone with a private certificate only. That's not the same as a license. They shouldn't diagnose or treat mental health conditions.

What to ask before you book

  1. "Are you licensed? In which state, and what's your license number?"
  2. "Where did you train in logotherapy, and how long?"
  3. "What do you do if someone needs more than you offer?"

How to check a license

In Arizona you can look up counselors and social workers with the Board of Behavioral Health Examiners, and psychologists with the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners. See how to check a therapist's license.

When this may need professional support. If what you are dealing with includes self-harm, severe depression or anxiety, substance dependence, or trauma symptoms that disrupt daily life, licensed mental-health care is the right door. Project Gina does not replace it. In the US, call or text 988. Grief and depression can look alike. If low mood lasts most days for two weeks or more, talk to a doctor. In a crisis, call or text 988 (US).
