Can I see a coach or healer while in therapy?

By · Last updated

Whether to see a coach or healer while in therapy is worth raising with your therapist; reading here isn't therapy and doesn't take its place.

You see someone every other week. It helps. You are also curious about this, and you don't want to mess up something that is working.

There are a few cases where this library's answer is not yet, and they are below.

01

Why the two are different things

Project Gina is a pattern-reading and support-fitment process. It is not therapy, medical care, or diagnosis.

This library asks one narrow question: what may be under a recurring pattern. Therapy does things a library does not attempt, and Cleveland Clinic explains what it is.

So one does not stand in for the other. Nothing here replaces medication either, and any question about what you have been prescribed belongs with the person who prescribes it. When Therapy Is the Right Door sets out when therapy is the right door.

02

How they can sit together

You keep seeing your therapist.

You tell them, if you want to. What to Tell Your Current Therapist suggests how.

You can bring what you read here into your therapy, if it is useful there.

03

When the answer is not yet

When you are in crisis, or close to it.

When your clinician has said that now is not the time to add anything. They know your care, and their view counts.

When you are hoping it will let you leave a therapy you find hard. That is a conversation to have with the therapist.

In any of those cases, licensed mental-health care is the right door.If tonight is an emergency, call or text 988 (US). This library is not that door.

04

Who it tends to suit

Someone in steady therapy who understands a good deal and wants to ask one narrower question.

05

Who it tends not to suit

Someone who wants a second opinion on a clinical matter. This library can't give one. Another clinician can.

What subtraction is not, in full, is on What Subtraction Is Not.

Just one. You don't have to read them all.

When this may need professional support. If what you are dealing with includes self-harm, severe depression or anxiety, substance dependence, or trauma symptoms that disrupt daily life, licensed mental-health care is the right door. Project Gina does not replace it. In the US, call or text 988.
