You are in the middle of it. The sentence is half out of your mouth, and some part of you says there it is. It is an odd, doubled moment. You are doing the thing and watching yourself do it. I'll catch myself about to message them and have to talk myself out of it.
This is the step that matters most: catch it once, live, and write it down.
01
What tends to happen
You may finish the old move anyway. Many first catches go that way.
You may feel foolish, since you could see it and still did it. Or you may feel a small lift, since you saw it at all.
Either is fine. The catch is the noticing. What you did next is a separate matter.
02
What a catch looks like
It depends on what was named in your session.
If it was Peace, where the fear is that someone's disappointment means you did something wrong, a catch might be hearing yourself say yes before the question was finished.
If it was Output, where the fear is that without achievement you don't matter, it might be noticing that you opened something new the day the last thing closed.
Those are two examples, and your catch will have its own shape.
03
What to do
Say it to yourself in one plain sentence. A form that can help is I am aware that this is happening, which is different from being inside it.
Log it.
Then leave the moment alone. You don't have to fix it, undo it, or tell the person in front of you.
04
What it is evidence of
One catch is a single scene, and one is not enough to tell much. What was named came from subtraction, and each catch is one more thing to check it against.
What it means when you only see it afterward is on When You Catch It Too Late.
When you catch it too late
Catching it too late is still catching it, and what can change over time is how long it takes you to notice.
